We made this for halloween to give to our rockin’ clients, it may seem odd that we give out stuff for halloween, but to simply put it.. we just love it!
We played with potion-styled treats to send out, to give it a more local feel, we mixed in a couple of filipino spells i.e. kulam, gayuma, and agimat.
The set includes:
1. Elixir of Life - no need to go to Belo anymore with this one!
2. Gayuma - stalk no more with this baby!
3. Liquid Luck - career wise or whatever, everyone needs a little bit of luck
4. Sleep Tonic - insomniacs, fret no more!
5. Kulam - hmm for rage monsters out there
6. Agimat - this will wipe out your fear when riding the deadly buses in the metro! or with magnanakaws, pwede rin!
we made it a bit more fun by detailing fun ingredients like harry potters chest hair for liquid luck!
Happy Halloweenie Weekend Everyone!!!
A few months back, a friend of mine, Joee, asked me if I wanted to join her with a project she has lined up. After some thinking, i thought this would be a great opportunity to work with a couple of great people for Diane Ventura’s Short Film ”(the)rapist”.
It was a breath of fresh air to work with a director who was very relaxed during pre-prod and during the shoot itself, I think this made doing our work easier, but of course we still like pressuring our crew to do their superhuman best.
I have to say this shoot was fun, it was fast paced and amidst all that we had to get creative to solve some interior design problems, not to mention adding some quirky elements to make the set different.
As we were nearing the end of the shoot, everything was going well, as you know, we here at Teamba super duper value “professionalism”, I guess it slipped my mind.. with everything that was going on during the shoot, We forgot to remind our crew to focus on the job and be “die hard fans” later, with Ely Buendia visiting the shoot.
Long story short, one of our crew let his inner fan get the best of him, during one of the most crucial moments where we had to get our asses inside to move stuff, he was blocking our way out to have his picture taken. This really infuriated us, because we had our minds set to give the best service possible with every project we do. But then again, how can we say no to an Ely Buendia Fan? We just laugh at the whole thing when we all talk about it, and by the way.. lesson learnt! (see picture above of the die hard.)

As promised, here is the second flipflop design we’ll be talking about today,
Remember when your mom used to nag you about closing the door? not only do we like finding humor in naggy moms, but it was just too hilarious not to include this in our design submissions to Sole Project.
This was originally designed for Wooden Canvas, but after a few negotiations after, this design found its way first being printed on fliplops.
With our first post, we told you our original concept of portraying our designs with the “old animation” treatment as you can see with our “original concept” photo.
But they decided they wanted a hint of color, so that’s what we did.
At first it was kind of hard to think of a design first, then manually sketch the elements individually, think of layering as you would in Photoshop or in Illustrator.
Here’s our process:
1. brain drizzling of designs (this would include alot of nagging from people, sorry!)
2. sketching of the whole design just to see what it would look like
3. pencil-ing of the individual elements of the design
4. inking in the individual elements
5. drying time of ink
6. scanning of lots of pieces of paper where the designs are drawn on
7. adjusting of scanned pictures
8. rendering (with lots and lots of digital layers too!)
9. approval and/or revision
if approved: - sending of final file to Sole Project
if revisions are needed: - start - over from number 1
We have no idea what got into us deciding to go thru this method, it came to a point where the whole punchline of the design was no longer funny, and was really driving us nuts!
but in the end, it took a whole lot of love and a whole bunch of sketchpads to get the designs in on time.
See our designs on Sole Project’s Website!
This tumblog has been stagnant for quite some time (eons, actually.) We’ll be trying to squeeze in a couple of bloggeroos every couple of days, so you can get to know us more!
This is the first of a long line up, of a quick view of how our design contributions came to be for sole project, a few months back, we had a great opportunity to work with a group of awesome people, wooden canvas + sole project.
Up first, is our Damaso Design, as you all know, Carlos Celdran braved his way to show what he thought about the Church and the RH bill (now you know this post is a bit late!) and we were really inspired by this. Originally, delving into politics isn’t what Sole Project had in mind, but we brought this up during the first few meetings, and they were cool enough to say “hey that’s not a bad idea, why don’t we put it out there?” so we did, and here we are!
It wasn’t easy to give Carlos Celdran and his purpose enough justice, but we hope we did alright :D for a couple of shy folks, we were really excited about this, this is one way of using design for its purpose, communicating through visuals!
So originally, we had a few textures going on with the first draft, but after rendering, we decided it was better to ditch the textures on his sleeve, shirt, and hat. Less is more! The second to the last photo, was our actual final design, we wanted it to be like the old black and white cartoons, (cue 1930’s mickey mouse cartoons) but they decided it would be better off with a hint of color, so that what we did for the rest of the series.

Last night members of the Hong Kong Hackerspace, aka Hong Kong Hackjam, got together at the Boot.HK offices to undertake a quick project to help victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. With electricity out in many parts of Japan, the call went out from the Tokyo Hackerspace community asking for help in providing lighting, networking and other electronic supplies for victims of the disaster. Here in Hong Kong we settled on the quick and easy (somewhat) task of building “Minty Boosts“. These are battery powered USB chargers that can be used with any AA battery to charge a mobile phone or other electronic device. The entire hardware is soldered together and throw into a candy or mint box, thus the name “Minty Boost”.
